Understanding every dashboard symbol keeps you, your passengers and your Hiace safe. Quick action on red icons prevents costly damage, while timely attention to amber ones avoids breakdowns. Green lights simply confirm systems are on, helping you drive with confidence.
Quick Navigation
Red Warning Lights (Stop Immediately)
Engine Oil Pressure
Oil circulation is weak or absent. Pull over, switch off the motor and check oil level; drive only after the cause is fixed to avoid engine seizure.
Brake System
Hydraulic pressure or fluid is low. Stop in a safe place, confirm the handbrake is released, check fluid and call for assistance before moving again.
Engine Coolant Temperature
Coolant is too hot. Turn off the air-con, stop the van, let it cool and check coolant; continuing can warp the cylinder head.
Battery Charge
Alternator or belt is not charging the battery. Turn off non-essential electrics and head to a workshop before the engine stalls.
Airbag / SRS
A fault could stop airbags deploying. Park, switch off, and have the restraint system scanned as soon as possible.
Seatbelt Reminder
Driver or passenger belt unfastened while moving. Stop and buckle up for full protection.
Door Ajar
One or more doors, tailgate or sliding door is open. Pull over and close firmly to prevent accidents.
Parking Brake On
Handbrake still engaged. Release fully before driving to avoid overheating the rear brakes.
Steering Lock
Steering column is locked. Stop, wiggle the wheel gently while turning the key or push-button to unlock; if it stays on, call for help.
Power Steering Failure
Electric or hydraulic assist lost. Expect heavy steering; stop soon and arrange repairs.
Transmission Temperature
Automatic gearbox overheated. Shift to P, idle until the light clears, then visit a technician.
Master Warning
Red triangle with exclamation; pairs with a message on the multi-info display. Read the message and act immediately.
Exhaust Overheat
Diesel exhaust or DPF temperature too high. Reduce speed, avoid hard climbs and let the system cool; seek service if light stays on.
Hybrid System Fault
(Hiace Hybrid) High-voltage fault detected. Pull over, turn off the vehicle and contact a Toyota dealer.
Collision Detected
Vehicle has detected a crash and triggered safety systems. Stop and inspect before further travel.
Yellow / Amber Warning Lights (Action Required Soon)
Check Engine (MIL)
Engine control found a fault. Performance may drop; book a diagnostic scan promptly.
ABS Fault
Anti-lock brakes disabled; normal brakes work but wheels can lock. Drive gently and fix soon.
ESP / VSC Fault
Stability control isn’t available. Reduce speed on bends and arrange service.
Tyre Pressure Low
One or more tyres underinflated. Check and adjust pressures to spec to avoid blow-outs.
Low Fuel Level
Tank nearing empty. Refuel soon to prevent stalling or fuel-pump damage.
Glow Plug / Preheat
On after start in a diesel engine means a glow plug issue; schedule replacement.
DPF Regeneration Needed
Soot load high. Drive at steady speed for 15 min to let the filter clean; if light stays, seek service.
Transmission Fault
ECU sensed a gearbox issue. Expect harsh shifts; limit load and get it checked.
Brake Pad Wear
Pads near limit. Plan brake service before disc damage occurs.
Washer Fluid Low
Screen-wash almost empty. Refill for clear vision in bad weather.
Smart Key Battery Low
Key fob battery nearing end. Replace coin cell to avoid start issues.
Headlamp Levelling Fault
Auto-level system malfunction. Lights may dazzle others; inspection required.
Hill-Start Assist Off
System unavailable; hold the van with the foot brake on slopes until repaired.

Speed Limiter Active
Limiter set; van won’t exceed chosen speed until you override.
4WD Engaged
All-wheel drive selected for better traction on loose surfaces.
Neutral Indicator
Automatic transmission in neutral; engine won’t propel the vehicle.
Ready (Hybrid)
Hybrid system live and silent; press accelerator to move.
