What Is the Subaru Lease Calculator?

The Subaru Lease Calculator is a vehicle leasing tool that estimates the cost of leasing a Subaru. It separates the payment into monthly depreciation and a finance charge, then applies the selected tax treatment and recurring add-ons.

A Subaru lease calculator estimates your payment by spreading the difference between adjusted capitalized cost and residual value across the lease term. It then adds a money-factor finance charge, tax when selected, and monthly add-ons. The tool also estimates signing costs, total lease cost, allowed mileage, and possible excess mileage charges.

The calculator is designed for shoppers comparing lease terms for models such as the Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Ascent, Impreza, WRX, BRZ, Solterra, and other listed Subaru vehicles. It uses only the numbers entered or selected. It does not retrieve live incentives, lender programs, dealer quotes, credit tiers, or state tax rules.

How the Subaru Lease Calculator Formula Works

The calculation starts with gross capitalized cost. This amount includes the vehicle price, destination and documentation fees, additional capitalized fees, and the acquisition fee when it is financed.

Cg=P+Fd+Fa+FacqC_g=P+F_d+F_a+F_{acq}

Cg is gross capitalized cost. P is vehicle price. Fd is destination and documentation fees. Fa is other financed fees. Facq is the financed acquisition fee.

Ca=CgDTRC_a=C_g-D-T-R

Ca is adjusted capitalized cost. The calculator subtracts the down payment D, trade-in credit T, and rebates R. If residual percentage is selected, residual value equals vehicle price multiplied by that percentage.

Md=CaVrnM_d=\frac{C_a-V_r}{n}
Mf=(Ca+Vr)×MFM_f=(C_a+V_r)\times MF

Md is monthly depreciation. Vr is residual value. n is the term in months. Mf is the finance charge, and MF is the money factor. Base payment is depreciation plus finance charge. Monthly tax and add-ons are then added when applicable.

M=(Md+Mf)+Tm+AM=(M_d+M_f)+T_m+A

The calculator also displays an approximate APR using money factor multiplied by 2,400. Entering APR reverses that conversion by dividing APR by 2,400.

Worked Example

Use the default inputs: a $35,000 vehicle price, $1,500 in destination and documentation fees, no other financed fees, no down payment, no trade-in, no rebates, and no acquisition fee. Gross and adjusted capitalized cost both equal $36,500. A 55% residual creates a $19,250 residual value.

For a 36-month term, depreciation is ($36,500 minus $19,250) divided by 36, or $479.17 per month. The finance charge is ($36,500 plus $19,250) multiplied by 0.00250, or $139.38. With no tax or add-ons, the estimated monthly payment is $618.54.

The example has no signing charges, so amount due at signing is $0.00. Total scheduled payments and total lease cost are $22,267.50. The 12,000-mile annual allowance provides 36,000 total miles, producing an estimated cost per allowed mile of $0.62.

How to Use the Subaru Lease Calculator: Step by Step

  1. Select a listed Subaru model or Custom Subaru. A listed model fills its preset vehicle price.
  2. Enter the negotiated vehicle price. Add destination, documentation, and other financed fees.
  3. Enter the down payment, trade-in credit, rebates, and incentives. These reduce adjusted capitalized cost.
  4. Enter the acquisition fee and choose financed or upfront payment.
  5. Select a 24, 30, 36, 39, 42, or 48-month term. Choose preset or custom annual mileage.
  6. Choose a residual percentage or dollar value and enter the quoted residual.
  7. Select money factor or equivalent APR. Entering one updates the other using the 2,400 conversion.
  8. Enter the tax rate and select monthly, upfront-payments, upfront-vehicle, or no-tax treatment.
  9. Add signing charges, the disposition fee, expected mileage, excess-mile rate, and monthly add-ons. Choose whether to include disposition in total cost.
  10. Select Calculate Lease to view the estimate or Reset to restore defaults.

The highlighted figure is the estimated monthly lease payment. The detailed results show capitalized costs, residual value, depreciation, finance charge, taxes, signing costs, total payments, effective monthly cost, and mileage figures. The estimated excess mileage charge is displayed separately and is not included in total lease cost.

Factors That Affect Your Subaru Lease Estimate

Model Price Presets

The model selector supplies a starting price, but you can replace it with the negotiated amount. These are calculator presets, not live prices or offers.

Subaru selectionPreset price
Crosstrek or Impreza$27,000
Forester$30,000
WRX$33,000
Crosstrek Hybrid$34,000
Custom, Forester Hybrid, Outback, or Uncharted$35,000
BRZ$36,000
Solterra$39,000
Trailseeker$40,000
Ascent$41,000

Residual Value, Money Factor, and Tax

A higher residual lowers depreciation because less vehicle value is used during the lease. A higher money factor raises the finance charge. Tax treatment also matters. Monthly tax applies to the base payment, upfront payment tax applies to all base payments, and upfront vehicle tax applies to vehicle price.

Signing Costs and Total Cost

Amount due at signing may include the down payment, upfront acquisition fee, security deposit, registration fees, other charges, first payment, and upfront tax. Total lease cost includes scheduled monthly payments and selected upfront costs. A security deposit is included even though an actual deposit may later be refundable.

Effective monthly cost divides total lease cost by the number of lease months. If the first payment is due at signing, it increases cash due that day but remains part of the full set of scheduled payments rather than an extra payment beyond the selected term.

Mileage and Lease-End Charges

Total allowed mileage equals annual mileage multiplied by the term and divided by 12. Excess mileage equals expected miles above that limit. The calculator multiplies excess miles by the entered per-mile charge, but it does not add that possible charge to total lease cost.

The calculator requires a positive vehicle price, lease term, adjusted capitalized cost, and annual mileage allowance. Residual percentage must be from 0% to 100%, and tax must be from 0% to 25%. Results are estimates. Actual pricing, taxes, incentives, credit requirements, fees, mileage rules, and lease-end charges may vary. Confirm all terms in the official agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a Subaru lease payment?

Enter the negotiated vehicle price, financed fees, capitalized cost reductions, lease term, residual value, and money factor. The calculator spreads depreciation across the term and adds the finance charge. It then adds monthly tax and recurring add-ons according to the tax and add-on settings selected.

What is included in the Subaru lease calculator payment?

The estimated monthly payment includes monthly depreciation, the money-factor finance charge, monthly tax when selected, and monthly add-ons. It does not include upfront tax, registration fees, security deposits, other signing charges, a disposition fee, or estimated excess mileage charges in the displayed monthly payment.

What is the difference between gross and adjusted capitalized cost?

Gross capitalized cost is vehicle price plus destination fees, other financed fees, and a financed acquisition fee. Adjusted capitalized cost subtracts the down payment, trade-in credit, and rebates. The calculator uses adjusted capitalized cost in both the monthly depreciation and finance-charge formulas.

How does residual value affect a Subaru lease payment?

A higher residual value lowers monthly depreciation because the calculator assumes less value is used during the lease. You can enter a percentage of vehicle price or a dollar amount. A dollar residual also creates a displayed residual percentage by dividing that amount by vehicle price.

Is money factor the same as lease APR?

No, but the calculator converts between them using an approximation. It multiplies money factor by 2,400 to display equivalent APR. When APR is entered, it divides APR by 2,400. The resulting money factor is still the value used to calculate the monthly finance charge.

Does the Subaru lease calculator include excess mileage charges?

Yes, it estimates excess mileage charges when expected total mileage exceeds the allowed amount. It multiplies excess miles by the entered per-mile rate. The charge appears separately and is not included in monthly payment, amount due at signing, total lease cost, effective monthly cost, or cost per allowed mile.

How accurate is the Subaru lease calculator?

The estimate is only as accurate as the values entered. The calculator does not access current Subaru offers, lender rates, dealer quotes, tax databases, or applicant credit information. Actual payments may differ because of pricing, incentives, taxes, fees, residuals, money factors, mileage limits, and lease-end terms.
