How the Idling Fuel Consumption Calculator Works
The calculator estimates the amount of fuel consumed during idling using a simple formula:
Fuel Consumption Formula
\[ \text{Fuel Consumed (liters)} = \left(\frac{\text{Engine CC}}{1000}\right) \times \text{Fuel Rate (L/h per liter)} \times \left(\frac{\text{Idling Time (minutes)}}{60}\right) \]This formula takes into account:
- Engine Displacement (CC): The size of your engine in cubic centimeters (CC).
- Idling Time (Minutes): The total duration your engine runs without moving.
- Fuel Type: The type of fuel used, which affects the consumption rate.
Fuel Consumption Rates by Fuel Type
Different fuel types burn at different rates during idling. The general consumption rates for each fuel type are:
- Petrol: 0.8 L/h per liter of displacement.
- Diesel: 0.5 L/h per liter of displacement.
- CNG (Compressed Natural Gas): 0.3 L/h per liter of displacement.
Example Calculations
Let’s calculate how much fuel a 1500cc petrol engine consumes if it idles for 30 minutes.
\[ \left(\frac{1500}{1000}\right) \times 0.8 \times \left(\frac{30}{60}\right) \]\[ 1.5 \times 0.8 \times 0.5 = 0.6 \text{ liters} \]
This means a 1.5L petrol engine will consume approximately 0.6 liters of petrol in just 30 minutes of idling.
